Lost Echo’s Preview 51 – Designing the Diagnostics Machine
A lighter update this week for Lost Echo’s than I was expecting. I spent a lot of time driving back and forth from Alabama, but I still managed to get a few important ideas together. Continuing with my work last week with Designing the Experiment Room I finished up the diagnostics machine, and experimented with the lighting. Animations are done, but I’ll add that logic to the game when I’m done with the interaction logic next week.
Designing the Diagnostic Machine
For the design of the Diagnostic Machine to copy the main design of the tank from the medical room, with some changes. I didn’t use any references for this model like with a lot of recent ideas. Mostly trying to capture the concept of a cold metal case with some minimal designs.
For the Mask, I really liked the idea of a golden ornate mask. I think for now, it’s ‘good enough’, but I honestly might revisit the idea after I’ve played round with sculpting for a bit, and I’ll probably poke around for a reference for what I want later.
Experimenting with the lighting
As for the lighting, I really liked the idea of red light pouring out of the side compartment. I wanted to figure our the best way of doing that. It took a bit more trial and error, but I think got there. The main trick was to adjust the render layers for the lights / meshes / reflection probes. I was already doing a bit of this with the windows. So I set out to do the same thing with this one light, and set of rooms surrounding it.
Anyways, that’s all I have for this week. Next week I’ll be focusing on adding in the interactions, and one of the interfaces the user can use.
